Vancouver, BC (October 5, 2023) Gymnastics BC (GymBC) in partnership with Gymnastics Australia are excited to announce the launch of the Fitter for Life program.

Fitter for Life is a program that was created by Gymnastics Australia and the Australian Physiotherapy Association to deliver a safe and enjoyable way for older adults to re-engage in physical activity, as well as increasing social participation to promote engagement. GymBC acquired this program so our Member Clubs have exclusive access to support our mission statement of delivering positive and diverse gymnastics experiences for province-wide participation at all levels.

“Engaging in gymnastics as a way to promote functional movement and spatial awareness has long been known to provide life-long health benefits throughout our population,” states GymBC CEO Nigel Loring. “We are thrilled to partner with Gymnastics Australia to provide GymBC members and clubs with privileged access to this age and stage-appropriate program and I hope many will avail themselves of this exceptional opportunity.

Recognizing the different phases of the Long-Term Development model (LTD), the Fitter for Life program will provide the resources and tools for GymBC Member Clubs to confidently serve participants in the Active For Life stage of our LTD, meeting both the physical activity and social needs in a fun and inclusive format.

The acquisition and implementation of new programs such as the Fitter for Life program can be credited to the voices and perspectives of GymBC Member Clubs. In the interest of providing support and resources for our programs, we can work collaboratively to increase participation in physical activity for all British Columbians and create a positive impact on our communities province-wide.
