To begin taking NCCP courses, you must turn 15 years old no later than on the weekend of a course you would like to attend. This is a national rule and there are no exceptions.
Become A Coach
Anyone can start the process of becoming a gymnastics coach: an athlete, parent or any other interested individual. Everyone starts on the same path to become a certified coach.
If you are certified in another country you will need to complete the Gymnastics Canada Experienced Coach Evaluation Challenge.
Minimum Age to Start Training as a Coach
All coaches must be registered with Gymnastics BC to take part in GymBC run courses. All member clubs must register their coaches with Gymnastics BC. If you are already registered with a member club as an athlete, judge or volunteer, you are covered; just ask your club’s representative to update your registration to also include coaching. If you are not already registered as a member you can pay for membership when you sign up for a course.
All coaches are required to complete the following before beginning to coach.
- A Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search (ages 19+ only)
- Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders
- CAC Safe Sport Training
More information can be found on the "Coaching Requirements" Page
Gymnastics Foundations (GF) is the first level for all coaches. You will need to become GF trained, and then once you are ready you can be evaluated to become certified. Visit the coaching pathways page to see all the steps required.
